The World Plumbing Council, together with The Plumbing Industry Commission of Victoria, Australia earlier this year presented training aids to the School of Industrial Development in the Solomon Islands.

Copies of the joint WPC / WHO publication Health Aspects of Plumbing and the plumbing technical reference standards for Australia and New Zealand were formally accepted by Head of School Mr Donald Duna and Mr Toben Hivu, head of the School’s plumbing department.

John McBride, WPC’s liaison representative with WHO was involved with arranging the presentation and he commented, “The college is shifting its focus of training to ensure the health aspects and implications plumbing can have on public health are clearly understood.

"This will entail incorporating the responsibility and accountabilities of plumbers into the training objectives and make new workers aware of the impact of good plumbing when dealing with water and sanitation within a community.”
