WPC Chairman Robert Burgon presented a paper “Water and Sanitation - Don’t Forget the Plumbing” at an international workshop in Edinburgh, Scotland earlier this year.

The workshop, Water and Sanitation in International Development and Disaster Relief, was held over three days and attracted delegates from across the world.

WPC agreed to provide GBP1,000 to enable two delegates from developing countries to attend the workshop, professor Victor Chipofya from the Centre for Water, Sanitation, Health and Appropriate Technology Dept (WASHTED) at the University of Malawi and Dr Theresa Mkandawire, also of the University of Malawi.

WPC member organisation, the Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers Federation also sponsored two delegates, from South Korea and Kenya.

WPC was featured prominently throughout the event and Robert Burgon commented, “I believe that our participation in this event provides WPC with a number of useful opportunities to broaden our reach and involvement in water and sanitation issues”.
